Check the target school's requirements before choosing a routine.
Scholarship opportunities are administered by individual schools and their arrangements can differ. Before buying material or setting a schedule, read the school's current scholarship page. Note the year level, application process, assessment provider if named, task areas, accessibility arrangements and any instructions about timing or devices.
For general background, AAS publishes information about its scholarship tests and online scholarship practice resources. Those pages do not replace the instructions for a particular school.
Use practice material for the job it can do.
Independent practice is most helpful when it gives a learner evidence about their current habits. It can reveal whether they explain their reasoning, look back to the text for evidence, check a calculation or leave enough time to plan a response. It cannot confirm how a particular school will assess every candidate or predict an offer.

That is broad four-area practice for current Year 6 learners, rather than a claim to reproduce a universal AAS paper.
Practise, review, then choose one next action.
- Choose a purpose. For example, observe whether your child can move on from a hard item or support a reading answer with words from the text.
- Complete a manageable session. Keep help for after the attempt so the result shows the child's current approach.
- Review a small sample. Include a missed answer, an uncertain answer and a successful difficult answer.
- Write one next action. Make it a behaviour the child can use on a fresh question, such as “list every condition before choosing an option”.
Example: turn a score into a next step
A child misses several questions after choosing the first option that seems possible. Rather than labelling the result “weak reasoning”, try: “For each option, check it against every rule before deciding.” The next short session can test that one behaviour on new questions.

- Can we point to the current target school information rather than relying on an old forum post or another school's process?
- Does this practice session have one purpose beyond getting a total score?
- Will we have time afterwards to discuss a few answers and write one next action?
- Is the routine leaving room for school work, rest and ordinary family life?
If the answer to any of these is no, adjust the plan before adding more practice. A smaller, reviewed session usually produces more useful information than several unexamined papers.
